Problem

A body performing simple harmonic motion along a straight line has angular frequency 20 rad s−120\,\text{rad}\,\text{s}^{-1}. At t=0t=0, its displacement is +3.0 cm+3.0\,\text{cm} and its velocity is −40 cm s−1-40\,\text{cm}\,\text{s}^{-1}. Taking the equation of motion as x(t)=Acos⁡(ωt+ϕ)x(t)=A\cos(\omega t+\phi), calculate: (i) the amplitude AA, (ii) the initial phase ϕ\phi (in radians, −π<ϕ≤π-\pi<\phi\le\pi).
