Problem

A closed organ pipe of length 0.80 m0.80\,\text{m} is filled with air in which the speed of sound is 340 m s−1340\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. Assume that end-corrections are negligible. (i) Determine the frequency of the first overtone produced by the pipe. (ii) On a hot day the speed of sound in the pipe increases by 2%2\%. Calculate the new frequency of the first overtone. (iii) By what factor has the wavelength of the standing wave corresponding to this overtone changed because of the temperature rise?
