Problem

A guitar string 0.65 m0.65\,\text{m} long has linear mass density 5.0×10−4 kg m−15.0\times10^{-4}\,\text{kg m}^{-1}. (i) When the tension in the string is 90 N90\,\text{N}, determine the frequency of the fundamental note produced. (ii) The player tightens the string so that the tension becomes 110 N110\,\text{N}. Calculate the new fundamental frequency. (iii) Find the percentage increase in frequency obtained due to this tightening.
