Problem

A student begins at corner AA of a rectangular playground whose length ABAB is 120 m120\,\text{m} and breadth BCBC is 90 m90\,\text{m}. He first walks from AA to BB, then from BB to CC, and stops at CC. (i) Find the total distance covered by the student. (ii) Calculate the magnitude of the displacement from AA to CC and state its direction with respect to side ABAB. (iii) If the student had instead walked directly from AA to CC, comment on whether the distance travelled would equal the displacement. Give a brief justification.
