Problem

Two identical strings AA and BB, each 0.50 m0.50\,\text{m} long, are fixed at both ends. (a) String AA has linear mass density 2.0×10−3 kg m−12.0\times10^{-3}\,\text{kg\,m}^{-1} and is under a tension of 100 N100\,\text{N}. Calculate its fundamental frequency. (b) String BB has linear mass density 1.2×10−3 kg m−11.2\times10^{-3}\,\text{kg\,m}^{-1}. Its third harmonic has the same frequency as the fundamental of string AA. Find the tension required in string BB.
