Problem

Shalini cycles in a straight line along a country road. (a) Write the expression for (a) average speed and (b) average velocity. (b) During the first part of her ride she covers 3.6 km in 15 min. Calculate her average speed in m s−1\text{m\,s}^{-1} for this interval. (c) She then continues in the same direction for a further 1.2 km taking 5 min. For the entire 20 min journey, determine her average velocity. (d) Using your answers, state whether the magnitudes of the average speed and average velocity are equal for this motion and give a brief reason.
