Problem
A rigid 10.0 L container is held at 300 K. The total pressure of the gas mixture inside is measured to be 760 mmHg. Individual partial pressures are found for three of the four components:
P(CO₂) = 160 mmHg,
P(O₂) = 200 mmHg,
P(Ar) = 40 mmHg.
Nitrogen is the only other gas present.
(a) Determine the partial pressure of nitrogen in the container.
(b) Calculate the mole fraction of each gas in the mixture.
(c) Compute the number of moles of nitrogen present.
(d) If the temperature is raised to 600 K while the volume remains fixed, what will be the new total pressure of the mixture? Assume no gas escapes and no reactions occur.
