Problem

Three displacement vectors in space are given by A⃗=3 i^−2 j^+6 k^ m\vec A = 3\,\hat i - 2\,\hat j + 6\,\hat k\,\text{m}, B⃗=−5 i^+4 j^+2 k^ m\vec B = -5\,\hat i + 4\,\hat j + 2\,\hat k\,\text{m}, C⃗=4 i^+3 j^−8 k^ m\vec C = 4\,\hat i + 3\,\hat j - 8\,\hat k\,\text{m}. (i) Obtain the rectangular components of the resultant displacement R⃗=A⃗+B⃗+C⃗\vec R = \vec A + \vec B + \vec C. (ii) Compute the magnitude of R⃗\vec R. (iii) Determine the direction cosines of R⃗\vec R and hence find the angles that R⃗\vec R makes with the positive xx–, yy– and zz–axes, giving each angle to the nearest degree.
