Problem
A 0.25kg block is attached to an ideal spring of force constant 200Nm−1 and performs SHM on a smooth horizontal surface with amplitude 0.04m. Take π2=9.87.
(a) Calculate the angular frequency of oscillation.
(b) Find the total mechanical energy of the system.
(c) If the amplitude is suddenly doubled while the mass and spring constant remain unchanged, determine the new total mechanical energy and hence obtain the ratio of the new energy to the original energy.
