Problem

A hiker is exploring a straight trail. The campfire site is chosen as the origin. At 7\,a.m. the hiker is already 250 m250\,\text{m} east of the campfire. From this point he then walks 0.30 km0.30\,\text{km} further east, rests, and finally walks 180 m180\,\text{m} to the west. (i) Write the position of the hiker relative to the campfire after each of the two walking segments. (ii) Calculate the total distance walked during the entire outing. (iii) Find the net displacement of the hiker from the campfire at the end of the walk, giving both magnitude and direction.
