Problem

Let A=(k+1)i^+3j^\mathbf{A} = (k+1)\hat{i} + 3\hat{j} and B=(4−k)i^+(k−2)j^\mathbf{B} = (4 - k)\hat{i} + (k - 2)\hat{j} be two planar vectors, where kk is a real parameter. The resultant vector is R=A+B\mathbf{R} = \mathbf{A} + \mathbf{B}. (i) Write down the xx- and yy-components of R\mathbf{R} in terms of kk. (ii) For what value(s) of kk is the magnitude of R\mathbf{R} equal to 55? (iii) For the value(s) of kk obtained in part (ii), determine whether R\mathbf{R} makes an angle of 45∘45^{\circ} with the positive xx-axis. Justify your answer.
