Problem

Two forces act simultaneously at a point. Force F⃗1\vec F_1 has magnitude 25 N25\,\text{N} and is directed due north. Force F⃗2\vec F_2 has magnitude 40 N40\,\text{N} and is directed 45∘45^{\circ} east of south. (i) On graph paper, choose a convenient scale and draw a fully labelled scale diagram showing both forces acting from the same point. (ii) From your diagram, measure the magnitude of the resultant force and express its value in newtons. (iii) Using the same diagram, measure the angle that the resultant makes with the north direction and state the direction of the resultant force in the form “θ∘\theta^{\circ} east/west of north/south”.
