Problem

Consider any geometric progression with positive first term. (i) Define the common ratio of such a progression. (ii) Explain how the signs of the successive terms depend on whether the common ratio is positive or negative. (iii) If the first term is 3 and the common ratio is −2, write the first four terms of the progression and state whether the sequence of terms is strictly increasing, strictly decreasing or neither.
