Problem

For a positive parameter kk, consider the following two infinite geometric series. Series MM: first term kk and common ratio 12\dfrac12. Series NN: first term 66 and common ratio k12\dfrac{k}{12}. Address the questions below. (i) Write the condition on kk for which each of the two series converges. (ii) Under the convergence conditions obtained in part (i), set up an inequality that expresses the requirement that the sum to infinity of Series MM exceeds that of Series NN. (iii) Solve the inequality derived in part (ii) to obtain the range of values of kk for which the stated requirement is satisfied.
