Problem

Light of wavelength 400 nm400\,\text{nm} is incident normally on a sodium surface for which the work function is 2.3 eV2.3\,\text{eV}. Assume h=6.63×10−34 J sh=6.63\times10^{-34}\,\text{J\,s} and c=3.0×108 m s−1c=3.0\times10^{8}\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. (i) Calculate the stopping potential produced in the photoelectric cell. (ii) Determine the wavelength of light that would increase the stopping potential to 1.5 V1.5\,\text{V} for the same surface. (iii) If the intensity of the incident light in part (i) is doubled without changing its wavelength, state with justification whether the stopping potential will change and, if so, how.
