Problem

A card is drawn at random from a well-shuffled standard deck of 52 playing cards. Let RR denote the event that the card drawn is red and let QQ denote the event that the card drawn is a queen. (i) Find P(R)P(R). (ii) Find P(Q)P(Q). (iii) Using your answers to parts (i) and (ii), determine P(R∪Q)P(R\cup Q). (iv) Check that the numerical values obtained satisfy the addition rule for the events RR and QQ. Show all working.
