Problem

A 0.15 kg0.15\,\text{kg} baseball approaches a catcher at 38 m s−138\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1} (toward the catcher). The catcher brings the ball to rest in 0.120 s0.120\,\text{s} by applying a force that rises linearly from 00 to a maximum value FmaxF_{\text{max}} during the first third of the time interval, remains constant at FmaxF_{\text{max}} during the next third, and decreases linearly back to 00 during the final third. Determine the numerical value of FmaxF_{\text{max}} in newtons.
