Problem

For an acute angle θ\theta, the value of sin⁡θ\sin\theta is given. Answer the following questions. (i) State the fundamental trigonometric identity that relates sin⁡θ\sin\theta and cos⁡θ\cos\theta. (ii) If sin⁡θ=35\sin\theta = \dfrac{3}{5}, find cos⁡θ\cos\theta. (iii) Explain why the value of cos⁡θ\cos\theta obtained in (ii) is positive. (iv) Using the values of sin⁡θ\sin\theta and cos⁡θ\cos\theta, verify numerically that 1+tan⁡2θ=sec⁡2θ1 + \tan^{2}\theta = \sec^{2}\theta for this angle.
