Problem

A student suffering from myopia can see objects clearly only up to a distance of 1.0 m1.0\,\text{m}. He wears spectacles fitted with identical thin concave lenses placed 2.0 cm2.0\,\text{cm} in front of his eyes. (i) Determine the focal length of each spectacle lens so that objects at infinity appear distinct to the student. (ii) With the help of a suitable ray diagram, show how these lenses enable the student to see a tree situated 100 m100\,\text{m} away. (iii) Calculate the linear magnification produced by the spectacle lens for the distant tree and comment on whether the apparent size of the object changes appreciably.
