Problem

Monochromatic light of wavelength 400 nm400\,\text{nm} falls normally on two different metal surfaces A and B. The work functions are 2.5 eV2.5\,\text{eV} for A and 4.0 eV4.0\,\text{eV} for B. (Use h=6.63×10−34 J sh=6.63\times10^{-34}\,\text{J s}, c=3.0×108 m s−1c=3.0\times10^{8}\,\text{m s}^{-1}, e=1.6×10−19 Ce=1.6\times10^{-19}\,\text{C}.) (i) Which metal will emit photoelectrons under this illumination? (ii) Calculate the stopping potential required to just halt the most energetic electrons emitted from that metal.
