Problem

Consider the series ln⁡x+pln⁡x+13ln⁡x+…\ln x+p\ln x+\frac13\ln x+\dots, where x∈Rx\in\mathbb{R}, x>1x>1, and p∈Rp\in\mathbb{R}, p≠0p\ne0. Consider first the case where the series is geometric. (1) Show that p=±13p=\pm\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}. (2) Given that p>0p>0 and S∞=3+3S_\infty=3+\sqrt{3}, find the value of xx. (3) Now consider the case where the series is arithmetic with common difference dd. Show that p=23p=\frac{2}{3}. (4) Write down dd in the form kln⁡xk\ln x, where k∈Qk\in\mathbb{Q}. (5) The sum of the first nn terms of the series is −3ln⁡x-3\ln x. Find the value of nn.
