Problem

A ball of mass 200 g200\,\text{g} is projected vertically upward from the ground with a speed of 20 m/s20\,\text{m/s}. Ignore air resistance and take g=9.8 m/s2g = 9.8\,\text{m/s}^2. (i) Calculate the initial kinetic energy of the ball. (ii) Determine the maximum height reached by the ball above the ground. (iii) While the ball is moving upward, find its speed when it is 10 m10\,\text{m} above the ground. (iv) Compute the total mechanical energy of the ball at (a) the point of projection, (b) the height of 10 m10\,\text{m}, and (c) the highest point. Show that the mechanical energy remains constant during the motion.
