Problem

At t=0t=0, the center of an upright rectangular pulse 0.50 m0.50\,\text{m} long on a light string is 0.10 m0.10\,\text{m} to the left of a knot that joins it to a heavier string. The wave speed is 4.0 m/s4.0\,\text{m/s} in the light string and 2.0 m/s2.0\,\text{m/s} in the heavier string. For the instant t=0.25 st=0.25\,\text{s} after the pulse center reaches the knot, state for BOTH the reflected and transmitted pulses: • the distance of the pulse center from the knot, • whether the pulse is upright or inverted, and • the length of the pulse.
