Problem

Two forces are represented by the vectors F1=⟨4, −3, 12⟩\mathbf{F}_{1}=\langle 4,\,-3,\,12\rangle and F2=⟨k, −3k4, 3k⟩\mathbf{F}_{2}=\langle k,\,-\dfrac{3k}{4},\,3k\rangle. (i) Determine the value(s) of kk for which F1\mathbf{F}_{1} and F2\mathbf{F}_{2} act along the same line. (ii) For each value of kk obtained, decide whether the two forces have the same sense (act in the same direction) or the opposite sense. (iii) Compute the magnitude of F2\mathbf{F}_{2} corresponding to each permissible value of kk.
