Problem
A long solenoid is wound uniformly with n=2500 turns per metre and carries a steady current I=1.6A. Its bore is completely filled by a long rod of a linear paramagnetic material of magnetic susceptibility χm=4.0×10−4. Treat the solenoid and the rod as infinitely long, so that end effects are ignored.
((a)) Find H inside the rod.
((b)) Find M inside the rod.
((c)) Find B inside the rod, to three significant figures.
((d)) Find the ratio of the rod's bound surface current per unit length to the winding's free current per unit length.
((e)) The same wire is unwound and rewound as a toroid of mean radius 0.100m with N=1570 turns, carrying the same 1.6A, and the same material fills the toroid completely. Find H at the mean radius.
