Problem

A dilute paramagnetic salt, in which each magnetic ion carries one Bohr magneton of moment (m=μBm=\mu_B), is cooled to liquid-nitrogen temperature T=77 KT=77\,\mathrm{K} in a field B=0.50 TB=0.50\,\mathrm{T}. ((a)) Compute the ratio μBB/kBT\mu_BB/k_BT. ((b)) State whether the sample is close to Langevin saturation at this field and temperature, and hence whether the linear Curie law χm=μ0Nvm2/3kBT\chi_m=\mu_0N_vm^2/3k_BT may be used.
