Problem

Two sides of a triangle ABCABC have lengths AB=6 cmAB = 6\,\text{cm} and AC=8 cmAC = 8\,\text{cm}. The included angle ∠A=C\angle A = C satisfies cos⁡2C=12\cos 2C = \dfrac{1}{2}. (i) Express sin⁡C\sin C solely in terms of cos⁡2C\cos 2C and hence determine the value of sin⁡C\sin C. (Take the principal value of CC for a triangle.) (ii) Calculate the measure of angle CC in degrees. (iii) Using the information above, find the area of triangle ABCABC correct to two decimal places.
