Problem

A transverse wave travelling in the positive xx-direction on a wire has the form y=3.0 mm sin⁡ (2π0.40 x−2π0.020 t)y=3.0\,\text{mm}\,\sin\,(\frac{2\pi}{0.40}\,x-\frac{2\pi}{0.020}\,t), where xx is in metres and tt in seconds. (i) Calculate the wavelength and the frequency of the wave. (ii) At a fixed position x=1.00 mx=1.00\,\text{m}, the displacement is measured at two instants separated by 0.0025 s0.0025\,\text{s}. Determine the phase difference between the two observations. (iii) State clearly whether the particle at x=1.00 mx=1.00\,\text{m} is found to be at identical, opposite, or some other phase in the two observations. Justify your answer numerically.
