Problem

A photograph captures a snapshot of a transverse wave travelling along a stretched string. In the picture the distance measured along the string from a crest to the very next trough is 0.12 m0.12\,\text{m}. During an experiment, 55 complete wavelengths of this wave pass a fixed point on the string in 2.5 s2.5\,\text{s}. Answer the following. (a) Explain how the distance from a crest to the next trough is related to the wavelength. (b) Calculate the wavelength of the wave. (c) Determine the frequency of the wave. (d) Hence find the speed with which the wave travels along the string.
