Problem

A transverse wave travels along a stretched string. The displacement of particles along the string at a particular instant is given by the following data.
Position x (cm)x\,(\text{cm})048121620
Displacement y (mm)y\,(\text{mm})050−5-505
At a fixed point on the same string, the displacement varies with time as follows.
Time t (ms)t\,(\text{ms})051015202530
Displacement y (mm)y\,(\text{mm})050−5-5050
Using the information above, answer the questions that follow. (i) Draw a displacement–distance graph and determine the wavelength λ\lambda and the amplitude AA of the wave. (ii) Draw a displacement–time graph for the fixed point and determine the time period TT. (iii) Calculate the frequency ff of the wave. (iv) Determine the speed vv of the wave on the string.
