Problem

A transverse sinusoidal wave on a stretched wire is represented by y(x,t)=0.010  sin⁡(100πt−4πx) m.y(x,t)=0.010\;\sin\bigl(100\pi t-4\pi x\bigr)\,\text{m}. Attempt the following tasks: (i) Determine the speed with which the wave disturbance moves along the wire. (ii) At the position x=0.25 mx=0.25\,\text{m}, calculate the earliest positive time after t=0t=0 when the magnitude of the particle’s velocity equals 1.5 m s−11.5\,\text{m s}^{-1}. (iii) For the same position and the time obtained in part (ii), compute the corresponding particle acceleration and state its direction relative to the equilibrium position.
