Problem

A pencil PQ of length 12 cm is held parallel to a plane mirror at a uniform perpendicular distance of 3 cm from it. (i) With the help of two suitable incident rays for each end, construct the images P′ and Q′ of the ends of the pencil. Join P′Q′ to show the complete image. (ii) Measure the length of P′Q′ and state how it compares with PQ. (iii) If the letter ‘P’ is written on the end P facing the mirror, draw how this letter appears in the image and explain the phenomenon responsible for the observed change.
