Problem

Two coherent sources, each of intensity I0I_0, have a separation d=λ/8d=\lambda/8, where λ\lambda is the wavelength emitted by either source. The phase difference of the sources is π/4\pi/4. The intensity distribution I(θ)I(\theta) in the radiation field, where θ\theta specifies the direction from the sources to a distant observation point PP, is given by (1) I(θ)=I0cos⁡2θI(\theta)=I_0\cos^2\theta (2) I(θ)=I04cos⁡2(πθ8)I(\theta)=\frac{I_0}{4}\cos^2\left(\frac{\pi\theta}{8}\right) (3) I(θ)=4I0cos⁡2[π8(sin⁡θ+1)]I(\theta)=4I_0\cos^2\left[\frac{\pi}{8}(\sin\theta+1)\right] (4) I(θ)=I0sin⁡2θI(\theta)=I_0\sin^2\theta
