Problem

A string instrument produces a wave of frequency 240 Hz240\,\text{Hz} when the wave speed along the stretched string is 180 m/s180\,\text{m/s}. (i) Find the wavelength of the wave on the string in this condition. (ii) The tension in the string is then increased so that the wave speed rises to 216 m/s216\,\text{m/s}, but the driving frequency remains the same. Calculate the new wavelength. (iii) State the percentage change in wavelength produced by this adjustment of tension.
