Problem

In a Young’s double-slit experiment, the slit separation is d=0.30 mmd=0.30\,\text{mm} and the screen is kept D=1.5 mD=1.5\,\text{m} away. The experiment is performed with light of wavelength λ=600 nm\lambda=600\,\text{nm}. Answer the following. (i) Calculate the path difference between the two interfering beams at a point on the screen that is 2.50 mm2.50\,\text{mm} above the central bright fringe. (ii) State whether the point specified in part (i) will appear bright or dark. (iii) Determine the angular separation (in radians) between the 3rd and the 5th bright fringes.
