Problem

During an earthquake, a longitudinal wave travels 600 km600\,\text{km} through the Earth to reach a seismograph station in 2.0 min2.0\,\text{min}. Seismologists estimate that exactly 20002000 complete wave cycles occupy the entire 600 km600\,\text{km} path at any instant. Answer the following. (a) Calculate the speed of the earthquake wave. (b) Determine the wavelength of the wave. (c) Find the frequency of the wave. (d) Comment on how the large wavelength of earthquake waves affects their ability to cause damage over long distances.
