(Checking a Schematic)
A student draws an incident ray on a sheet of paper so that it strikes a vertical plane mirror at point O. The normal at O and the reflected ray are also drawn. However, while the incident ray and the normal lie entirely on the sheet, the reflected ray is shown coming out of the plane of the paper (towards the observer).
(a) Identify the conceptual error in the student’s drawing.
(b) Explain, with reference to the relevant law of reflection, why this drawing is incorrect.
(c) Redraw the reflected ray correctly on the same sheet and label all three rays and the normal.
