Problem

A progressive wave on a string is given by the equation y(x,t)=0.020  cos⁡(200πt−0.5πx) m.y(x,t)=0.020\;\cos\bigl(200\pi t-0.5\pi x\bigr)\,\text{m}. Answer the following: (i) Obtain the numerical values of the angular frequency ω\omega and the wave number kk. (ii) Calculate the maximum possible speed with which any particle of the string can move. (iii) Determine the maximum magnitude of the acceleration of any particle of the string. (iv) Compute the ratio of the maximum particle acceleration to the maximum particle velocity and state its unit.
