Problem

For a person of height HH metres, the eyes are located hh metres below the top of the head. A vertical plane mirror is to be mounted on a wall so that the person can see the entire image while standing upright on the floor. (i) By drawing a labelled ray diagram, derive a general formula for the minimum length LL of the mirror required in terms of HH and hh. (ii) From your derivation, obtain the vertical distances of the top and bottom edges of the mirror from the level of the eyes. (iii) Use your formulae to calculate LL and the required positions of the mirror edges for a person whose height is 1.80 m1.80\,\text{m} with eyes 0.10 m0.10\,\text{m} below the top of the head.
