Problem

Microwave A has frequency 9.0×109 Hz9.0\times10^{9}\,\text{Hz} and travels in air. Microwave B is produced by changing the source so that its frequency becomes 1.51.5 times that of A while still propagating in air. (a) Calculate the ratio of their wavelengths λB/λA\lambda_B/\lambda_A. (b) Keeping the frequency of B fixed, it is now sent through a glass slab of refractive index 1.501.50. Determine its new wavelength in the glass expressed as a fraction of λA\lambda_A. (c) Using your answers, comment on whether the product λν\lambda\nu for an electromagnetic wave depends on the medium.
