Problem

A transverse wave on a stretched string has speed v1v_{1} and is produced by a source of frequency f1f_{1}. The tension in the string is increased so that the wave speed becomes v2=1.5 v1v_{2}=1.5\,v_{1}. At the same time, the driving frequency is reduced by 25%25\% to f2=0.75 f1f_{2}=0.75\,f_{1}. Find the ratio of the new wavelength to the original wavelength, λ2/λ1\lambda_{2}/\lambda_{1}.
