Problem

A ripple tank is adjusted so that water waves travel with a constant speed of 0.64 m s−10.64\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}. In one experiment the measured wavelength is 3.2 cm3.2\,\text{cm}. Answer the following: (a) Convert the given wavelength into metres. (b) Calculate the frequency of the water waves. (c) Determine the time period of the waves. (d) If the wavelength is later observed to shorten to 2.4 cm2.4\,\text{cm} while the wave speed remains the same, compute the new frequency.
