Two sound waves, A and B, travel through air at 25∘C. Their displacement–distance traces have been recorded on the screen of a CRO. For wave A the distance between two successive compressions measured along the distance axis is 0.75m, whereas for wave B the corresponding distance is 0.50m. Answer the following:
(i) Define wavelength, frequency and pitch of a sound wave.
(ii) Between waves A and B which one has the higher pitch? Give reason based on the given information.
(iii) State whether the speed of the two waves in air is the same or different. Explain briefly.
