Problem

Two metal rods have lengths L1=6.035×102 cmL_{1}=6.035\times10^{2}\,\text{cm} and L2=2.41×103 mmL_{2}=2.41\times10^{3}\,\text{mm}. A third rod has length L3=7.950×100 mL_{3}=7.950\times10^{0}\,\text{m}. Using appropriate unit conversions where necessary, find: (i) The combined length L1+L2L_{1}+L_{2} expressed in metres in scientific notation. (ii) The difference (L1+L2)−L3\bigl(L_{1}+L_{2}\bigr)-L_{3}, expressed in scientific notation and rounded to four significant figures.
