Problem

Points P and Q on a stretched string are separated by 0.50 m0.50\,\text{m}. At an instant t=t0t = t_{0} their displacements are found to be identical and both moving upward, but after 1.0 ms1.0\,\text{ms} point Q reaches its next crest while point P takes 2.5 ms2.5\,\text{ms} from t=t0t = t_{0} to reach its next crest. (i) Determine the wavelength of the progressive wave on the string. (ii) Find the speed of the wave and state clearly the direction of propagation. (iii) Calculate the frequency of the wave.
