Problem

In a laboratory experiment, two slits separated by 0.20 mm0.20\,\text{mm} are illuminated by light of wavelength 580 nm580\,\text{nm}. The fringes are observed on a screen placed 1.2 m1.2\,\text{m} away. (a) Determine the total number of complete bright fringes that can be accommodated within a strip of width 3.0 cm3.0\,\text{cm} on the screen, centred about the central bright fringe. (b) Calculate the distance of the last bright fringe inside this strip from the central bright fringe. (c) If the screen is moved 0.30 m0.30\,\text{m} closer to the slits, how many complete bright fringes will now fit inside the same 3.0 cm3.0\,\text{cm} strip?
