Problem

In a Young’s double-slit experiment, the light used has wavelength λ=600 nm\lambda = 600\,\text{nm}. At a point PP on the screen the path difference between the two waves arriving from the slits is Δx=1.80 μm\Delta x = 1.80\,\mu\text{m}. (a) Calculate the phase difference ϕ\phi at point PP. (b) State whether the intensity at PP is maximum, minimum, or neither. Justify your answer. (c) Determine the order (value of nn) of the fringe obtained at PP if it is bright or the order of the dark fringe if it is dark.
