Problem

Let S=sin⁡75∘ cos⁡15∘+cos⁡75∘ sin⁡15∘S=\sin 75^{\circ}\,\cos 15^{\circ}+\cos 75^{\circ}\,\sin 15^{\circ}. Answer the questions that follow. (i) Find the exact values of sin⁡75∘\sin 75^{\circ}, cos⁡15∘\cos 15^{\circ}, cos⁡75∘\cos 75^{\circ} and sin⁡15∘\sin 15^{\circ}, expressing each in simplest radical form. (ii) Using the values obtained in part (i), evaluate SS exactly. (iii) Show that S=1S=1 and explain, with reference to a general trigonometric identity, why this result is expected. (iv) Using SS, simplify the expression T=sin⁡75∘cos⁡15∘+cos⁡75∘sin⁡15∘T=\frac{\sin 75^{\circ}}{\cos 15^{\circ}}+\frac{\cos 75^{\circ}}{\sin 15^{\circ}} so that TT is expressed as a rational number.
