Problem

An X-ray tube used for crystallography emits photons, each with an energy of 24 keV. The photons propagate through vacuum between the source and the sample. Use appropriate physical constants from the information sheet provided with the exam. (a) Calculate the wavelength of these X-ray photons. Show all steps clearly and include units in your answer. (b) Determine the frequency of the photons. (c) Visible-light wavelengths range roughly from 400 nm to 700 nm. Using your result from part (a), explain whether the emitted photons are visible to the human eye and discuss quantitatively how their energy compares with that of a typical red photon (700 nm).
