Problem

A rectangular park has an area of 120 m2120\,\text{m}^2. Its length exceeds its breadth by 1 m1\,\text{m}. (i) Taking the breadth of the park to be x mx\,\text{m}, form a quadratic equation in xx that represents the given information. (ii) Solve the quadratic equation obtained in part (i) and hence find the exact dimensions of the park. (iii) Show by direct substitution that your answers satisfy both the area and the length–breadth conditions of the problem.
